CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police have identified two women shot on Monday at a South Hills apartment complex.
Markkeia Johnson, 21 and Kristy Brooks, 41, both of the Oakwood Terrace apartment complex, were hit by gunfire at about 5:45 p.m. while standing outside 942 Oakwood Terrace, according to Sgt. Eric Hodges of the Charleston Police Department.
Hodges said Brooks was hit in the abdomen, while Johnson was shot in the left hand. Both women were taken to CAMC General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"Fortunately no one else was hurt," said Sgt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department. "Anytime you have a shooting in daylight like this it heightens the alarm a bit."
Hodges said police have a suspect in the case and expect to make an arrest.
