SC building makes political party switch
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County Democrats are taking over the state GOP's old headquarters.

The county Democrats plan to use the building, dubbed the "Ronald Reagan Building" by state Republican officials, on MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston as their campaign headquarters this fall, said Kanawha Democratic Chairman Norris Light.

The party will lease the space from the Skaff Family Limited Partnership, which is owned by the father of Delegate Doug Skaff, D-Kanawha.

Democrats met at the office Monday evening, Light said. They removed the Ronald Reagan sign and replaced it with Democratic banners.

An official grand opening is planned for mid-September, said Kanawha County Democratic Women's Club President Eloise Jack, who is organizing the move.

Last September, the West Virginia Republican Party moved to a former real estate office on Greenbrier Street, near the state Capitol. That building served as Democratic headquarters during Gov. Joe Manchin's first gubernatorial campaign.
