Rotary Club announces ambassadorial scholar
The Rotary Club of Charleston has selected Paula Kaufman of Charleston as the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for the 2010-11 academic year.
Kaufman will study and live in the Netherlands for 10 months. She will attend Utrecht University where she is working towards a master's degree in cultural history. Kaufman graduated from Brown University this May with honors with degrees in American studies and literary arts.
The Rotary Ambassadorial Program aims to further international understanding and friendship across country boundaries. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. The scholarship will provide funding to help cover round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses and educational supplies for one year of post-graduate studies.
Other winners from West Virginia include Meaghan Cochrane of Buckhannon and Sarah Perry of Morgantown. They will study in Belgium and Scotland, respectively.
