CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- An attempt by Charleston police to crack down on illegally held guns has led to two more concealed weapons arrests.
Charleston Police Sgt. Eric Hodges said an officer thought it was strange when a man bought two tickets at the Greyhound bus station on Reynolds Street at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, went outside and gave them to two men waiting around the corner.
When officers went to question the men, one tried to run away, Hodges said. He was caught after a short foot chase.
When officers asked why he ran, Bishop Gerald Allen, 23, of Detroit allegedly told officers that he had a gun in his duffle bag. Hodges said Allen, in fact, had two -- a .357 Magnum caliber Rossi revolver and a 9mm Jennings semi-automatic pistol.
Allen was charged with fleeing, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of OxyContin with intent to deliver. He was in the South Central Regional Jail on Thursday in lieu of $5,000 bond.
Later that night, police arrested a second man in Kanawha City after receiving a report of suspicious subjects in the area of 53rd Street and Venable Avenue, Hodges said. Hodges said officers tracked the men down in a car at about 9:25 p.m.
When police asked the passenger, Joseph Eric Perdue, 19, of Charleston to get out of the car, officers noticed a .22-caliber revolver lying on the floor, Hodges said.
Perdue also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon. He was in the South Central Regional Jail on Thursday in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
