New I-64 bridge opening ties up morning traffic

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The new Interstate 64 bridge near South Charleston opened Thursday morning, tying up traffic in the process.

Road workers shut down the east-bound lanes of the interstate about 7 a.m. to shift traffic to the new bridge, said a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher.

The lanes going over the new bridge opened about 7:30 a.m., the dispatcher said.
