2 wounded in Fayette plane crash

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- Two Tennessee men were injured Friday when their private airplane crashed in a wooded area on the outskirts of Oak Hill shortly after taking off from Fayetteville Airport.

West Virginia State Police District Commander B.L. Mankins identified the men as Richard Cantley, 66, and Jonathan Adkins, 21. Adkins is believed to have been piloting the aircraft when it crashed.

According to State Police, the accident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Eight minutes later, troopers from the State Police's Oak Hill detachment located the downed plane, where they found the on the ground outside the single-engine Cessna 150.

Both men were alert and responsive, and although cuts and bruises were visible, no life-threatening injuries were apparent. Adkins was taken to Plateau Medical Center, while Cantley was flown to CAMC General Hospital.

 Federal Aviation Administration personnel have been contacted to conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
