FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A coal truck driver was arrested Thursday on charges of negligent homicide stemming from a fatal accident this summer, according to Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.

Larry Wayne Evans, 26, of Fayetteville, was driving the coal truck on July 21 when it collided with a sport-utility vehicle on W.Va. 61 near Robson. The SUV's driver, Justin Davis, 19, of Oak Hill, eventually died of his injuries. A passenger in the SUV, Adam Sizemore, 19, of Oak Hill, was seriously injured in the wreck.

Although Evans was determined to be at fault in the incident, no charges were immediately filed, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. But sheriff's Detective R.K. Perdue II investigated further after some people complained about Evans' actions just before and after the collision.

Perdue learned that Evans "operated his vehicle in a reckless manner with no regard for the safety of other motorists," Kessler said in the news release.

Evans was arrested and released Thursday on $5,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
