Kessler raised about $81,000 at fundraisers held at Wheeling Island Hotel & Resort, K&K Music in Bluefield, the Parkersburg VFW, Power Alley Grill in Charleston, and the Walker & Stevens law firm in Barboursville. His donors included the political action committees of J.P. Morgan & Chase Co., Dominion Gas and CNX Gas.

Kessler has spent about $30,000, of which $20,000 was paid to the Charleston consulting firm Rainmaker Media.

Another Democrat, South Charleston landlord Arne Moltis, reported $4,150, which all came from his own pocket.

Maloney and Ireland have raised far more than other Republican hopefuls:

  • Putnam County Prosecutor Mark Sorsaia brought in about $22,000 and loaned himself $15,550. He has spent more than $32,000, leaving him with about $9,000.
  •

  • Sen. Clark Barnes, R-Randolph, raised $3,700 and loaned his campaign $100,000.
  •

  • Delegate Mitch Carmichael, R-Kanawha, raised $4,175 and hasn't spent any of it.
  •

  • Former Berkeley County delegate Larry Faircloth raised $2,725 and loaned himself $25,000. He has about $20,000 on hand.
  •

  • Monongalia County resident Cliff Ellis raised $1,500 and has less than $150 left.
  •

  • Ralph William Clark, also of Monongalia County, raised no money and gave his campaign a $4,000 loan. He has $395 left.
