Police target drugs in Jackson County, 61 indicted
RIPLEY, W.Va. -- Sixty-one people face charges stemming from an undercover operation targeting the drug trade in Jackson County.
A special grand jury issued indictments last week containing nearly 200 charges ranging from drug possession to felony murder. Media outlets report that local, state and federal law enforcement officers arrested most of the suspects Monday.
Most of the cases involve heroin and illegal prescription drug sales. Two people were charged with felony murder in connection with the heroin overdose death of an Evans man.
Jackson County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Tony Boggs says the sheriff's department, Ripley and Ravenswood police departments and the state police conducted the months-long investigation.
