Tractor-trailers collide on turnpike

Crews survey the damage of a multi-vehicle accident along the West Virginia Turnpike, just north of the Yeager Bridge, Wednesday. Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher said a Fed-Ex tractor-trailer, traveling north, crossed the median and struck another tractor-trailer heading south. A car then crashed into the tractor-trailer, a dispatcher said. The Fex-Ex truck landed on its side off the roadway and the tractor-trailer came to a rest upon the median. Three other drivers trying to avoid the collision were also involved in a crash, dispatchers said. The Fed-Ex driver and one of the car's drivers were transported to the hospital.
Traffic was stopped for more than an hour Wednesday because of a multi-vehicle accident in southbound lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike, between Kanawha City and Marmet. During a rainy day, emergency responders were called out to multiple accidents in the area Wednesday. West Virginia State Police said the southbound lanes were reopened by 8 p.m.
