CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Three people were injured Saturday when the driver of a tractor trailer caused an accident and fled the scene, police say.
State Police in Martinsburg say the tractor trailer hit a black Toyota SUV, causing the driver of the second vehicle to lose control, strike a guardrail and overturn, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Police in Martinsburg.
The accident happened around 7:50 p.m. on Interstate 81 at the 15 mile marker in Martinsburg. Police arrived to find a woman in the vehicle, which was resting on its roof, and a man and female child outside the vehicle.
The woman, identified as Kimberly Yumlu, was trapped inside the vehicle. Upon extrication, she was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries. Her husband, Christopher Yumlu, and their daughter were treated at Martinsburg City Hospital and later released.
The make, model and registration of the tractor trailer are unknown.
