CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies said they found a gun under the car seat of a convicted felon during a traffic stop Thursday.

Deputy J.L. Miller pulled over a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Earl M. Myers, 31, of Charleston, on West Washington Street for a traffic infraction, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Miller checked Myers' driver's license and found that it was revoked, and that Myers had outstanding warrants for domestic battery and failure to appear in South Charleston city court.

Lt. B.C. Robbins arrived and assisted Miller in taking Myers into custody. During a search, Robbins found a Hi-Point .380 caliber pistol under Myer's seat, police said.

Myers has previous felony convictions of breaking an entering and transferring and receiving stolen property, the news release said.

He was charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and was expected to be arraigned Thursday night in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
