CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rep. Shelley Moore Capito is ready to seek a seventh term representing West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District.
The Kanawha County Republican filed her candidacy papers Friday, a day before the election deadline. But her federal reports show she's already raised more than $1 million for her re-election campaign.
Capito will face her first GOP primary opponent since she began running for Congress in 2000. Delegate Jonathan Miller of Berkeley County will challenge for her 2nd District seat instead of for a fourth term in the House of Delegates. The 27-year-old began his federal campaign last year. He had $4,500 on hand as of Dec. 31.
Three Democrats have filed in the 2nd District: Howard Swint of Charleston, Dugald Brown of Martinsburg and William McCann of Jefferson County.
Also Friday:
Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania became the fourth Republican to file for the West Virginia presidential primary. He joins Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.
Former Putnam County Circuit Judge Edward Eagloski filed to run for the remaining four years of former Judge O.C. Spaulding's term.
Eagloski, a Republican from Hurricane, was a circuit judge from 2001 to 2008. He narrowly lost his 2008 bid for re-election to current Circuit Judge Phillip Stowers.
Democrat David L. Hill, a Hurricane lawyer, also filed to run for circuit judge on Friday.
