CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human services has released more than $22 million for West Virginia's home heating assistance program.
The funding announced Sunday by Sen. Jay Rockefeller's office is intended to help West Virginia families cover their home heating expenses this winter season. It is administered by the West Virginia Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Besides this funding announcement, West Virginia is expected to receive almost $7.5 million in additional home heating assistance funds this year.
Rockefeller has joined 39 of his colleagues urging President Barack Obama to avoid any cuts in this program in his 2013 fiscal year budget. It is to be released in few weeks.
The state's home energy program provides assistance to about 111,500 West Virginia households.
