Fayette's Spring Dale Post Office to close

SPRING DALE, W.Va. -- The U.S. Postal Regulatory Commission has affirmed the Postal Service's plans to close a Fayette County post office.

The move announced Monday means services provided by the Spring Dale Post Office will be transferred about 4 miles to the Meadow Bridge Post Office.

The Spring Dale Post Office provided retail postal services to 88 post office box or general delivery customers.

Among the factors cited in the Postal Service's decision were the 2009 retirement of the office's postmaster, a minimal workload and declining office revenue, other delivery and retail options, a minimal impact on the community and an anticipated annual savings of nearly $52,000.

Last week the Postal Service announced plans to cease mail-processing operations in Bluefield, Parkersburg, Clarksburg and Petersburg.
