Arrest made in Nitro robbery

By Staff reports

NITRO, W.Va. -- A Nitro man was in jail Wednesday after allegedly robbing a woman.

John Richard Thomas III, 23, of Valentine Circle, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery, according to Nitro police.

According to a criminal complaint in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Alisha N. Toler told police she had given Thomas a ride to his grandparents' house late Tuesday when Thomas allegedly leaned over from the back seat of the car, threw the vehicle into park and demanded Toler give him her money.

When she refused, Thomas allegedly got out of the car, walked around to the driver's side and threatened to punch Toler in the face if she didn't turn over the cash, according to the complaint.

When she again refused, Thomas hit her in the cheek, the complaint said. Toler said she then gave Thomas the money she had, which came to about $12. Thomas then ran off, the complaint said.

Thomas was in the South Central Regional Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $25,000 bond.
