WVUH-East offers discounted mammograms

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Women in the Eastern Panhandle will be able to get discounted mammograms for three consecutive Saturdays in May.

The West Virginia University Hospitals-East program is open to anyone 35 and up and will be held at City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson on May 5, 12 and 19.

The hospital says it's screened more than 500 women in the past three years through the weekend clinics. Mammograms, including interpretation by the radiologist, cost only $60.

Spokeswoman Teresa McCabe says the hospital started the clinics after patients said they couldn't afford the test and would have to put it off.

A doctor's referral isn't needed, but patients must register in advance.
