Fire danger warning posted

By Staff reports
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fourteen counties in southwestern West Virginia are under a fire danger alert today issued by the National Weather Service.
Gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuel combine to create ideal conditions for wildfires this afternoon, the weather service said, especially in open areas and exposed ridgetops.
Open burning of any kind is extremely dangerous. The No. 1 cause of wildfires by far is escaped debris from controlled fires. In addition, be careful about heat and sparks while operating equipment, and while smoking outdoors.
The fire alert is in effect for Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Mingo, Logan, Boone, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh and Fayette counties in West Virginia.
