WELCH, W.Va. -- A McDowell County ambulance driver died after being struck by a coal truck Wednesday.

A coal truck was in the wrong lane of W.Va. 83 at about 1 p.m., said McDowell County Sheriff's Cpl. L.S. Noe.

The coal truck struck a McDowell County ambulance while coming around a curve and pinned it against the hillside, Noe said.

The driver of the ambulance, who was a woman, died at the scene. Her name is not being released until family can be notified.
