MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a school bus, a car and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 in the Eastern Panhandle.

Media outlets say the crash occurred early this morning near the Tabler Station Road exit, and the driver of the car died.

Thirty-seven students were on board the bus.

Teresa McCabe of City Hospital in Martinsburg says six students were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She says all were evaluated, and their parents have been notified.

Berkeley County schools spokeswoman Leah Daniel says the other 31 students were taken to Musselman Middle and High schools after the crash.

She says the bus was traveling south when a vehicle crossed the median and struck it head-on.
