Chemical Valley Rollergirls joins FestivALL for home season opener

Chemical Valley Rollergirls, Charleston's first competitive flat-track roller derby team, will open its 2012 home season with FestiBRAWL at 5 p.m. June 16 at the Charleston Civic Center, against the Ohio Valley Roller Girls, during the city's FestivALL celebration. Entertainment includes music from Tofujitsu and Qiet.

Adult tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Youth tickets for children 2-12 are just $5. Children under 2 receive free admission. Tickets are available from the Civic Center box office and Ticketmaster. (www.ticketmaster.com) Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit the Derick Kirk Foundation that supports and funds music education and development in grades kindergarten through 12.

The 2012 season continues with home bouts July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 30 and Oct. 14. All home bouts are at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. The CVRG will match up against other West Virginia teams as well as teams from surrounding states.

Formed in November 2008, the Chemical Valley Rollergirls is Charleston's first competitive all-female flat-track roller derby team. CVRG is a skater-owned and operated league whose mission is to actively create, promote and sustain an environment that fosters strength, courage, vitality and empowerment of women through the sport of roller derby. The team is always recruiting new skaters, officials and volunteers.
