CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston Area Medical Center will offer free health screenings and sports physicals from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Civic Center.
Last year, nearly 2,000 attended CAMC's HealthFest, according to hospital officials. More than 300 middle school and high school students got free physicals.
Most screenings will be free but there is a cost for screenings that require blood work. Fasting is required for blood work, which will be from 7 a.m. to noon. Prostate exams will be offered from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Free sports physicals for middle and high school athletes will be offered from noon to 2 p.m.Screenings offered will include: peripheral artery disease, diabetes, stroke, osteoporosis and heart. Those who attend may discuss medications with a pharmacist, get help preparing living wills and medical powers of attorney and learn about nutrition, lung care and hearing. There will be height and weight checks, fingerprinting and games for children.
