Camp Virgil Tate director fired

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The director of Camp Virgil Tate has been fired.

Damron Bradshaw, vice president of the Kanawha County 4H Foundation board, which owns the camp near Sissonville, said camp director Cody Smith was fired Friday. Bradshaw said Smith's firing was due to poor job performance.

Smith was hired in September 2011. He was the second camp director since longtime director Judy Bostian retired the previous April.

Joshua Tulley was hired in May 2011 to replace Bostian, but was fired in July after being charged with employment security fraud for allegedly failing to report income to Workforce West Virginia officials.

West Virginia University Extension Agent Kerri Wade said the extension service will work closely with the 4H Foundation to help pick a replacement for Smith and make other improvements at Camp Virgil Tate.
