CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- One person is dead following a weekend wreck near Ripley.

West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said Ronnie Lee Lane, 66, was driving west along the berm of U.S. 33 near Station Camp Road in a Dodge Ram pickup truck at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday when for some reason he swerved across the road and into the path of eastbound traffic. Lane was hit broadside by a Chevrolet Colorado driven by Paul Lyons.

Hometowns of Lane and Lyons were unavailable, Baylous said.

Lane did not survive the wreck. Lyons and his juvenile son received minor injuries and were taken to Jackson General Hospital, Baylous said.

Troopers from the Ripley State Police detachment and Jackson County sheriff's deputies responded. Authorities are awaiting medical reports to help determine the cause of the accident.
