Gauley Bridge woman injured in crash

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A woman was seriously inured in a car accident in Cotton Hill Monday afternoon after she lost control of the vehicle and struck a nearby rock cliff.

The woman, a 25-year-old from Gauley Bridge, was the only occupant of the vehicle, and was headed north on W.Va. 16 near Chimney Corner, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. The wreck happened near the Honey Creek Bridge.

The woman, whose name was not released, was transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center via HealthNet. Her condition was unknown this afternoon.

The preliminary investigation has not revealed any indication of drug or alcohol use, police said.
