Legal Aid of W.Va. gets funding boost
LOGAN, W.Va. -- The state Attorney General's office has given $1 million to a nonprofit group that provides free housing and other assistance to low-income residents.
Attorney General Darrell McGraw says the funding come from the state's recent settlement with five mortgage lenders over foreclosure abuses.
McGraw says the funding will enable Legal Aid of West Virginia to continue operating in Logan and Mingo counties over the next three years. Legal Aid also will become a partner in a statewide program to provide mortgage and litigation help for homeowners.
McGraw says Legal Aid lost $1.2 million in federal and other grants this year.
