CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A 21-year-old Tucker County man died when his vehicle struck a tree early Sunday morning, according to a dispatcher with West Virginia State Police in Elkins.

James E. Fladung, of Hambleton, was driving a 2003 Mazda on U.S. 219 in Hambleton when the crash occurred at about 3:14 a.m, police say.

According to police, Fladung drove the vehicle off the side of the road, where it collided with a road sign before driving down an embankment and striking a maple tree.

Fladung was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the dispatcher.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
