West Virginia Humanities Council will commemorate the 1812 Marshall Expedition by giving two presentations. The first will take place at 7 p.m. June 26 in the Fayette County Courthouse, Fayetteville, by Ranger Frank Sellers of the New River Gorge National River, titled "The John Marshall Expedition: An 1812 Survey through the Virginias." Refreshments will be provided by the Fayette County Historical Society following the event. Sellers also will present his program at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the courtroom of the Summers County Courthouse, Hinton. The Summers County Historical Society will provide refreshments following the program. Both events are free.

Coal River Group needs volunteers for its children's Watershed Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 29 at the Coal River Group's Science and Education Center in Meadowood Park, Tornado. The event will bring 250 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Albans and Charleston for a day of learning about watershed science. Those interested in volunteering should email Sara Cottingham at Cottinghamster1@gmail.com for information.

Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a Founders' Day hike and picnic in Kanawha State Forest's Wall region July 1. Carpool at 12:30 p.m. from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at lodge parking area. The hike is four to five miles on a moderate trail. An alternative short hike is also available and is 1 1/2 miles from the lodge to the firing range and back. A picnic at the lodge will begin around 3 p.m. Bring a side dish to share. Meat, dessert and drinks will be provided.

St. Albans Historical Society's building, 404 Fourth Ave., St. Albans, will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7 for viewing of historical displays, photographs and books. Bring vintage St. Albans photos to be scanned for the group's collection.
