FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A motorcyclist died Saturday night when another driver failed to yield and pulled directly into his path, police said.
Wesley Shackelford, 30, of Mount Lookout, was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson when he collided with a Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Rodney Thinke, 41, of Norwalk, Ohio, said Sheriff Steve Kessler.
The accident happened around 9:55 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Keller Avenue in Fayetteville.
Kessler said the preliminary investigation determined Thinke failed to yield to Shackelford's right of way and pulled onto U.S. 19, directly into Shackelford's path.
Paramedics took Shackelford to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill but he died upon arrival, Kessler said.
The accident remains under investigation by Sgt. S.L Campbell and Deputies A.E. Roberts and S.L. Milam.
Kessler urged caution for drivers who share the road with motorcyclists.
"These motorcycles are often hard to see and it is more difficult to judge the speed of an approaching motorcycle than it is to judge the speed of an oncoming car," he said. "It is important for motorists to be aware of the possible presence of motorcycles, bicyclist and pedestrians on or near the roadway."
