Marshall pharmacy school takes accreditation step

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University's new School of Pharmacy will begin classes this fall after receiving precandidate accreditation status.

Marshall President Stephen J. Kopp says in a news release that the precandidate status granted by the Accreditation Council For Pharmacy Education is a major step toward full accreditation.

Up to 80 students are expected to enroll in the first class.

The doctor of pharmacy program's precandidate accreditation will be in effect until June 30, 2013. The accreditation council will conduct an on-site evaluation during the 2012-2013 academic year and decide whether to move the program's status to "candidate.''
