CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested a man in the robbery of a convenience store in Rand early Monday morning.

Lt. Bryan Robbins of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said a clerk at the 7-Eleven in Rand told deputies a man had been loitering in the parking lot for several hours late Sunday and early Monday.

"At night they keep their doors locked and conduct business through a window," Robbins said.

He said the suspicious man came up to the window and rang the buzzer at about 1:10 a.m. When the clerk came to the window, the man pulled a gun and demanded money and cigarettes, Robbins said.

Robbins said the clerk gave the man four envelopes containing $566 and several cartons of cigarettes. The man then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white male in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and black shoes.

A Kanawha County sheriff's dispatcher said a man had been arrested, but a criminal complaint was not immediately available late Monday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
