FUTURE EVENTS

Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Unity of Kanawha Valley, 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. Host will be Ron Sowell. All local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. 

Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike in Chief Logan State Park on Sunday. Carpool at 1:30 p.m. from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at Chief Logan Museum parking lot. The hike is approximately 4 miles on new trails with some short uphill areas.

Ten branches of the Kanawha County Public Library system will offer "Kindergarten, Here We Come," a program with fun activities designed to help make the first day of school a little less stressful. Call the host library to register for these free programs. Participating branches include: Clendenin Branch Library, July 26, 11 a.m.; Marmet Branch Library, July 27, 10:30 a.m.; Riverside Public Library, July 28, 11 a.m.; Elk Valley Branch Library, Aug. 2, 6 p.m.; Nitro Public Library, Aug. 2, 6 p.m.; St. Albans Branch Library, Aug. 2, 6:30 p.m.; Main Library, Aug. 4, 11 a.m.; Sissonville Branch Library, Aug. 9, 6 p.m.; Cross Lanes Branch Library, Aug. 11, 11 a.m.; and Dunbar Branch Library, Aug. 13, 6:30 p.m.
