CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges he repeatedly sexually assaulted his teenage daughter over about a 13-year period, causing her to give birth to three of his grandchildren.

Charles Shamblin Jr., 56, of Paint Creek was arraigned in Kanawha County Circuit Court on Monday on charges of second-degree sexual assault, incest and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian.

On Jan. 11, the woman, who is now 35, told police that Shamblin abused her from the time she was 7 until she was 20, according to a search warrant affidavit.

The woman's children are 21, 16 and 15. The woman apparently gave birth to the first of Shamblin's children when she was about 14 years old.

A paternity test performed at Marshall University confirms that Shamblin has a 99.9 percent probability of fathering each child.
