WHEELING, W.Va. -- Smoking and other tobacco use will be prohibited on West Liberty University's campus next year.

Dr. William Mercer with the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department said the ban will include electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products. It will go into effect in January.

The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register said Mercer informed the Wheeling-Ohio County Board of Health about the pending ban on Tuesday.

A similar ban at West Virginia Northern Community College will go into effect Nov. 15. West Virginia University's main campus in Morgantown will go tobacco-free on July 1, 2013.
