CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's Public Service Commission Transportation Enforcement Division has been named the nation's top safety enforcement program for the second year in a row.

The award, presented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, goes to the division that demonstrates the highest level of achievement and focus in its safety programs, according to a news release.

The state's transportation enforcement division was recognized for its work in conducting vehicle safety inspections and road checks during 2011.

"The joint effort between state and federal officials creates a successful Transportation Enforcement program, and in turn, reduces fatalities and injuries on roads across West Virginia," Gary Edgell, director of the PSCH Transportation Enforcement Division, said in a news release.
