WHITESVILLE, W.Va. -- A dedication is scheduled for a memorial to 29 miners who died in a 2010 explosion at a southern West Virginia coal mine.

The Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial is scheduled to be dedicated today at a ceremony in Whitesville. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is among those scheduled to speak.

The April 5, 2010, explosion at the former Massey Energy mine near Montcoal was fueled by methane and coal dust. It was the worst U.S. mine disaster in four decades.
