War city clerk to serve out term of slain mayor
Advertiser

WAR, W.Va. -- The city clerk of War will serve the remainder of slain Mayor Thomas Hatcher's term.

Media outlets report that City Council has named Carolyn Cempela as interim mayor. She will serve until June 2013. A mayoral election will take place in 2013.

Cempela said Hatcher's slaying has been a shock for the entire community. But she said the city has to carry on because that's what he would have wanted.

City workers found Hatcher's body in his home on July 17.

His daughter-in-law, 31-year-old Rebecca Lynn Hatcher, of War, and her brother, 26-year-old Earl Click, of Grundy, Va., are both charged with first-degree murder.
