Fayette authorities recover body of man who disappeared while swimming
GAULEY BRIDGE, W.Va. -- Authorities have recovered the body of a Fayette County man who disappeared while swimming in the Kanawha River on Saturday.
Police recovered the body of David Jones, 47, of Powellton, at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release issued by Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.
Jones was reported missing late Saturday night after swimming in a section of the river just west of Gauley Bridge. Fayette sheriff's deputies, Division of Natural Resources officers and volunteer firefighters had been searching for Jones since early Sunday morning.
Jones' body was sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
The death remains under investigation, but police do not suspect foul play.
"Although he appears to have drowned, only the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner can determine a formal cause and manner of death," Kessler said.
