Elderly woman struck, killed while pumping gas
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police do not expect to file charges against a driver who they said accidentally struck and killed an elderly woman at a Kanawha City gas station Wednesday morning.
Joyce Kendall, 75, of Charleston, was pumping gas into her car at the 7-Eleven at 4929 MacCorkle Ave. at about 11:30 a.m. when she dropped her gas cap, said Charleston Police Lt. Shawn Williams. Kendall reached down to pick it up as a driver of a truck pulled into the parking lot. The driver did not see the woman and clipped her with his back tire, Williams said.
Paramedics rushed Kendall to CAMC General Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Williams said the incident remains under investigation but it appears to be a tragic accident. The driver's name was not immediately available.
