HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Navy veterans who were on board the submarine USS John Marshall will gather at Marshall University this weekend.

The expected reunion of eight former shipmates will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday. The veterans will honor their ship's bell, which is on display in the John Marshall dining room on the Huntington campus. A painting of the submarine also is expected to be presented to the university.

The Navy and Virginia Military Institute presented the bell to Marshall in 1994. It's one of two remaining pieces of the nuclear-powered sub, which was commissioned in 1962 and decommissioned in 1992.
