The Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter, will host a town hall meeting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Alzheimer's Association's office at 1601 Second Ave. The town hall is an opportunity for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, their caregivers and members of the community to learn more about the state of West Virginia's plan to address Alzheimer's disease and the National Alzheimer's Plan as well as to provide feedback regarding implementation of both plans. American Legion, Col. Charles Young Post 57, will hold a membership meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Institute Volunteer Fire Department, 301 Dubois St., Institute. All veterans are welcome. For information, call Frank Walker at 304-768-6943.

Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital will have an "Evening of Hope" at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 outside the main lobby to celebrate cancer survivors and remember those that lost the battle to cancer. A short musical presentation will be presented by cancer survivors Pat Grady and Johnny Jones.

Putnam County Chamber of Commerce's next Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Main Street Studio, 2801 Main St., Hurricane. Business After Hours provides a social but professional venue for businesspeople to make new contacts and expand their presence in the business community. Participation is open to all chamber members and their guests. The price to attend is $15 per person. Reservations are required and payment in advance is appreciated. There will be a cash drawing sponsored by BB&T, and you must be present to win. Food and refreshments will be included. Reservation deadline is Aug. 20. Messages for Hope will sponsor a "Walk for Suicide Prevention" at noon Aug. 25 at Magic Island. Registration begins at 10 a.m. There will be a balloon release, memory table and speeches by local survivors of suicide loss.
