SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The annual Summerfest gala, now in its 12th year, runs through Sunday. It features '50s and '60s music, dance competitions, cars, fireworks and the United Way Sunday Scoop. Bob Anderson, executive director of the South Charleston Convention and Visitor's Bureau says Summerfest isn't just about good music; it's about good value, which has never been more important.
"A lot of parents are having a hard time right now, with the economy the way it is," he says. "We want to have a lot of free things. So the music is free. For the kids, we've got free snow cones and cotton candy, free face painting and a free Jupiter Jump."
Saturday also will feature the 2012 Classic and Antique Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a 10 p.m. fireworks show, which Anderson promises is spectacular.
