HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Police in Huntington said a man was knocked unconscious Monday night when another man hit him in the back of the head with a cinder block.

A fight broke out at a house in the 200 block of Adams Avenue at about 11 p.m., according to Huntington Police Chief W.H. Holbrook in a release.

Witnesses told officers that Howard LeMaster, 49, of Huntington, tried to break up the fight when a man hit him the head with the large block.

Officers identified the suspect as Shane Ray McCaffrey, 25, of Huntington. McCaffrey was found a short time later, was charged with malicious wounding and was being held Tuesday in Western Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail.

LeMaster was taken to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, Holbrook said.
