South Charleston Public Library will be closed Friday for a staff-training day. The library will also be closed from Saturday through Sept. 3. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. Sept. 4. For information, call 304-744-6561.
Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission will host a dog swim at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at Valley (wave pool) Park. Donations will benefit the new animal shelter.
Problem Gamblers Help Network of West Virginia will sponsor a free special event for those seeking to recover from a gambling addiction Sept. 21-23 at the Chief Logan Conference Center in Logan. Space is limited and attendees must pre-register. Participants can come alone or bring one adult support person with them. A seminar on repairing relationships damaged by gambling addiction will be led by Arnie Wexler, recovering compulsive gambler, author and internationally cited expert on gambling addiction. To register, call the Problem Gamblers Help Network of WV at 1-800-GAMBLER.
