Marmet Recreation Center will offer a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 1. Tickets cost $8. Don Gibson and The Velvetones will be featured. The concession stand will sell hot dogs, barbecues, soft drinks and more. Dancers and nondancers are welcome. For information, call Barry Pauley at 304-949-9692.

Al-Anon will have meetings for friends and family of alcoholics. Alateen meetings are for teens who deal with the alcoholism and/or drug addiction of a family member or friend. Meetings will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; noon Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; and 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive. Alateens meet at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive; and at 7 p.m. Sundays, Legacy Study Group meets at First Presbyterian Church, 508 Second Ave., South Charleston.

Rock Lake Community Life Center will have the "Rock Lake Friday Night Shindig" from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 7 at the center, 801 Lincoln Drive, South Charleston. Local youth musicians and families are invited to participate in the free open-mike night. For information, call 304-766-6173.
