FUTURE EVENTS

  • Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Sunday at the Wallace Hartman Nature Preserve, located adjacent to Hampton and South Ruffner roads. Meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the preserve at South Ruffner and Adrian roads. There is limited parking at the preserve. The moderate hike is approximately 4 miles, with some steep hills.
  • St. Albans American Legion Post 73 and the Auxiliary will sponsor a pancake and sausage breakfast between 8 and 11 a.m. Saturday at the Post home on Pennsylvania Avenue, St. Albans.
  • The town of Spencer will have the Roane County Homecoming Celebration on Saturday and Sunday at the ball field at 811 Madison Ave., Spencer, and Monday at Charles Fork Lake, W.Va. 36, Spencer.
  • Music, activities and more will be featured Saturday and Sunday. Speakers at 1:15 p.m. include Miss West Virginia 2012 Kaitlin Gates; former CBS "Big Brother 11" reality-TV star, Ronnie the Rat; and former Harlem Globetrotter Seth Franco. A Blues Brothers Tribute Show will be held from 4:15 to 5 p.m.

    A church service begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday under the tent. Gospel music with Chris Carter, J'Nae Carter and Jennifer Wagoner Family will be held at 1 p.m. Brighterside Quartet performs at 2 p.m.; Taj Rohr at 3 p.m.; Forgiven Four at 4 p.m., closing events at 5 p.m.

    The fifth annual Labor Day Bass Tournament and Kids' Fishing Derby will be held from 6 to 11 a.m. Monday at Charles Fork Lake. The free Kids' Fishing Derby starts at noon off the docks. The prize is a new bike. Bring a pole and bait. Cash prizes for first and second places. Entry fee is $20 in advance or $25 at the lake. Contact Debbie, at 304-927-2919, or Toby, at 304-273-5533.
