Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor an evening hike at 7:30 Sept. 4 at Kanawha State Forest, Pine Ridge Trail. Meet at Dunlop parking area. The hike is 1 1/2 to 2 miles. Bring a light source.

Staff of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., along with federal and state representatives, will be available at four public meetings around the state to help veterans navigate the medical services, benefits and health counseling available to them. All meetings will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Meetings are set for Sept. 5 at the VA hospital in Clarksburg and the American Legion Post No. 16 ballroom in Huntington, and for Sept. 6 at the Raleigh County Public Library in Beckley and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, Tech Center, Room T-04, in Martinsburg.

Daughters of the American Revolution, Kanawha Valley Chapter, will meet for a luncheon at noon Sept. 8 at Angela's on the River, in St. Albans. After lunch, Nitro High School teacher Drew Wendt, nominee for DAR outstanding teacher of American history, will speak about the U.S. Constitution. Dues for the coming year will be collected and chapter yearbooks distributed. Hostesses are Sandy Cox and April Gardner.
