Body found near Magic Island

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police have still not confirmed the identity of a man found dead Saturday near Magic Island, a spokesman said Sunday.

Detectives are investigating the death of a black man, probably in his 20s, whose body was found at about 9 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Duke Jordan of the Charleston Police Department.

"It appears he came off the bridge, the Interstate [64] bridge, near Magic Island," Jordan said. The man landed on the ground, north of Kanawha Boulevard. "He came down between the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Interstate."

Police tentatively had identified the victim by Sunday after a woman came in Saturday reporting a missing person, Jordan said. "He had no ID on him."

No foul play was suspected, Jordan said. "He wasn't shot or beaten."
