FUTURE EVENTS

Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa: will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Dunbar. Call Ethel Rooper at 304-562-3121 for information.

Kanawha County Public Library: will observe National Home School Month at four libraries, featuring a program designed to show home school instructors how the library can help them supplement their curriculum. There will be activity stations for children ages 3 and up. Bring a lunch and compare notes with other homeschool families. Participating libraries are: Main Library, 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 10; St. Albans Branch Library, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday; Elk Valley Branch Library, 10 a.m., Sept. 14; and Riverside Public Library, 10 a.m., Sept. 14.

West Virginia's Promise AmeriCorps VISTAS and community volunteers: will host a "Sweet Appreciation Baking Party" for local first responders in remembrance of 9/11 and National Day of Service. The baking party will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Rock Lake Community Life Center, 801 Lincoln Drive, South Charleston. Baked goods will be given to local police and fire departments on Tuesday in appreciation of their service to the community. Volunteers are needed to help bake cookies. Pre-baked cookies are welcome. West Virginia Auxiliary -- Wives Behind the Badge group is extending the service project to Putnam County and Cabell County first responders. John Henson Senior Center,: 2800 Putnam Ave., Hurricane, will offer free square dance sessions for beginners at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 and 20 at the center. For more information, call 304-741-1374 or 304-562-5049.
