KIAHSVILLE, W.Va. -- Two people were killed and a third injured early Thursday when they wrecked their utility vehicle in rural Wayne County.

Sgt. E.A. Blankenship of the Wayne State Police detachment said Herbert Estep, 73, Elsie Estep, 70 and Christopher Tinder, 20, were heading into the woods on a UTV to dig ginseng near Mountain Home Cemetery in Kiahsville about 9:15 a.m. when Herbert Estep apparently lost control of the vehicle on a hill and smashed head-on into a tree. Blankenship said all three were then thrown from the vehicle.

Herbert and Elsie Estep were both killed in the crash, Blankenship said. Kinder was able to call for help on his cell phone and was flown by helicopter to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was in stable condition late Thursday.
